  • March 24: Theatre Company presents ‘The Grown Ups,’ April 4-6 and April 11-13

    Monday March 24, 2025

    Detroit Mercy Theatre Company‘s production of The Grown Ups, by Simon Henriques and Skylar Fox, will be performed across two weekends, April 4-6 and April 11-13 at the Marlene Boll Theatre located at 1401 Broadway StreetÌýin downtown Detroit. Friday and Saturday performances are at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 3 p.m.

    Grab a s’more and immerse yourself in this dark satire directed by Andrew Papa about a group of camp counselors thrust into a struggle to shape the leaders of tomorrow amidst looming uncertainty and fraught relationships.

    The story unfolds underneath the starlit sky, as the campers drift off to sleep and the lake whispers its lullabies, and it’s time for the counselors to unwind. But amidst the tranquility, there’s an undercurrent of tension. What awaits in the morning to keep camp fun and safe? The news hints at something sinister, something lurking beyond the forest’s edge.

    • Sunday, April 6: Navigating Chaos: Drawing on historical precedents and contemporary analyses, join us in an exploration the resilience of American institutions, the role of government agencies and the impact on civil society in the event of a nation-wide crisis on American soil. Led by Department Chair and Professor of Political Science Genevieve E. Meyers and presented as part of the Detroit Theatre Discussion Project.

  • March 24: Faith and freedom tour rescheduled for April 6

    Curious about Detroit’s connection to the Underground Railroad? Interested in attending a Baptist service? Want to get out into Detroit and experience the city?

    All are welcome to join University Ministry and the African American Studies Program for a Faith in the D event on Sunday, April 6! This day includes a trip to Second Baptist Church for Sunday service, a tour of the worship space and history of their involvement with the Underground Railroad and lunch in the city.

    We will meet in the University Ministry Office (Lower Level of Student Union across from the Bookstore) at 9:30 a.m. Transportation to Second Baptist Church will be provided. If you are driving yourself, please meet us at 10:15 a.m. at the Second Baptist Church.

    Lunch will be provided at a local restaurant following the tour. We will return to campus at approximately 2 p.m. Lunch and transportation are provided at no cost.

  • March 24: Gesu Detroit fundraiser with presentation of ‘American Prophet’ set for April 4

    Poster for the short firm American ProphetPlease join University Ministry and the Gesu Detroit Peace and Justice Committee at 7 p.m. Friday, April 4Ìýfor a presentation of the short film American Prophet, based on the life of Bishop Thomas Gumbleton.

    The film will be shown in the Warren Loranger Architecture Building Exhibition Space. All are welcome to attend! There will be a Q&A with the director and cast following the film.

    The cost is “pay what you can” with a suggested donation of $10. All proceeds will benefit the San Mateo Haitian Refugee Outreach Ministry in Puerto Rico.

    Please note that seating is limited and available on a first come, first-served basis.

  • March 24: Optometry School schedules March 31 open house

    The event includes an inside look at the new Doctor of Optometry program including a tour of the Novi campus and Detroit Mercy Eye Institute, an admissions presentation and an opportunity to meet School of Optometry leadership, faculty and admissions team.

  • March 24: Trauma-informed pedagogy workshop set for March 27

    The Inclusive Teaching Learning Community is excited to host Assistant Professor of Psychology and Director of the Master of Arts Program in Clinical Psychology Lee Eshelman for a workshop about trauma-informed pedagogy.

    The workshop will be held on Thursday, March 27 from 12:45- 2 p.m. inside the Ford Life Sciences Building, Room 116.

    Over the recent years, the challenges arising from the ongoing global pandemic and sociopolitical discord have created chronic uncertainty, upheaval and stress in the lives of many. The negative impact of trauma can disrupt students’ emotional well-being and interfere with learning. This talk will educate instructors on trauma-informed pedagogy and practices they can incorporate into the classroom to promote more inclusive and compassionate teaching.

    The session aims to empower educators to navigate the complexities of trauma, fostering resilience and equity for a diverse range of students within the college classroom. For more information or any questions, please contact Danielle Maxwell at maxweldn@udmercy.edu.

  • March 24: De-stress Fest set for Monday, April 14

    Mark your calendar! The annual end-of-the-year De-stress Fest is set for Monday, April 14 from 4:30-7 p.m. in the Student Fitness Center on the McNichols Campus.

    As finals approach, take some time to relax, recharge and have fun with a variety of stress-relief activities, including:

    • Food and snacks
    • Therapy dogs
    • Massage therapists and sound bed therapy
    • Car Smashing and blow-up competitions
    • Raffles and giveaways

  • March 21: Four-week powerlifting class starts March 27

    Friday March 21, 2025

    Ready to build strength and test your limits? Our four-week powerlifting class begins Thursday, March 27, at 6-7 p.m. in Calihan Hall and will continueÌýeach Thursday thereafter. No need to be an elite lifter—this class is for anyone looking to get stronger and improve their technique.

    The class will focus on the three main powerlifting exercises:

    • Bench Press – Build upper body strength and control
    • DeadliftÌý– Master proper form for pulling power
    • Squat – Develop lower body strength and stability

    For the first three weeks, you’ll learn the fundamentals and proper technique for each lift with expert guidance from our Titan strength and conditioning coach from the Athletic Department. In week four, on April 17, put your strength to the test in a friendly competition to crown the strongest Titan on campus. Come ready to lift, learn and compete!

During their segment, they discussed services available for the community at the Institute and spoke briefly about the college and ÄÐÈ˲ؾ«¸ó’s expansion of allied health care programs in support of our Jesuit and Mercy mission.
